FLOWERS THAT DON’T ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE FLOWERS

Post Image

At Stem Design, we’re all about creating floral experiences that surprise and delight. One of our favourite ways to do this? Using flowers that don’t actually look like flowers. These blooms mimic animals, objects, and all sorts of whimsical things—turning every arrangement into a conversation starter.

Here are some truly unique flowers that look like other things, and how you can incorporate them into your wedding or event:

1. Butterfly Orchid (Psychopsis Papilio)

Looks like: A butterfly in mid-flight.
Perfect for: Romantic garden weddings or whimsical themes.
How to use it: Add to hanging installations or delicate table arrangements to make it seem like butterflies have landed among the flowers. The movement and lightness bring a fairytale feel to any setting.

2. Snapdragon Seed Pods (Antirrhinum)

Looks like: Tiny dragon faces or skulls when dried.
Perfect for: Dark, enchanted forest themes or moody autumn events.
How to use it: Pair with dried elements and deep-toned blooms for a magical bouquet or centrepiece. Ideal for couples who love a gothic, alternative twist.

Looks like: Little dolphins jumping out of water.
Perfect for: Beach weddings or tropical events.
How to use it: Style them in pots for eco-friendly wedding favours, or line them up in centrepieces alongside driftwood, seashells, and soft pastel florals.
